But before you can fully immerse yourself in this sophisticated lifestyle, there's the practical side of moving. We've broken down the process into easy-to-follow steps, ensuring you arrive at The Gallery prepared and ready to embrace your new life.

The Countdown Begins: Pre-Move-In Essentials

Once your lease has been accepted and fully executed by the Property Manager, you'll receive a comprehensive move-in handbook and resident handbook. These documents are invaluable resources and should be read thoroughly. They contain critical information necessary for a smooth transition.

One crucial point to remember: packages that arrive prior to your lease start date would be considered undeliverable and will be returned to the sender. Please coordinate the timing of your package deliveries to occur after your official lease start date.

Here’s a checklist to get you started well before move-in day:

  1. Lease Confirmation & Key Handover: Double-check with the Management Office for your official lease start date and confirm when you will receive your keys. Clarity on this prevents any last-minute surprises.
  2. Secure Your Moving Team: River North is a bustling area, and reputable moving companies get booked quickly. Contact an insured and experienced moving company well in advance. Discuss their services, whether they offer packing, furniture disassembly, and whether they are familiar with luxury building move-in procedures. 
  3. Utility Setup – ComEd is Key! This is a critical step for The Gallery. You must set up your ComEd account before your move-in day. Action: Contact ComEd and establish your new account. You will need your new ComEd account number to pick up your keys. Don't delay this step!
  4. Internet & Other Utilities: While ComEd is mandatory for key release, don't forget other essential utilities. Research internet service providers available at The Gallery and schedule installation for your move-in day or shortly thereafter. 
  5. Renter's Insurance – A Must-Have: The Gallery requires renter's insurance. This protects your personal belongings and provides liability coverage. Action: Obtain a renter's insurance policy and ensure it is active by your move-in date. You will need to provide a copy of Page 1 of your Renter’s Insurance Policy to the Management Office to receive your keys.
  6. Change of Address: Update your mailing address with the U.S. Postal Service to ensure all your mail is redirected to your new home at The Gallery. Inform banks, subscription services, and any other important contacts of your new address.
  7. Consider Professional Cleaning: While your new apartment will be pristine, some residents prefer a professional deep clean before moving their belongings in. This is entirely optional but can provide extra peace of mind.
  8. Understand Building Logistics: Will your movers need to use a service elevator? Are there specific loading dock instructions? Contact the Management Office to understand The Gallery's move-in day protocols for large items and movers. This pre-planning will save significant time and effort on the big day.

 

The Financials: Understanding Your Move-In Payments

Before you get your keys, there are some financial considerations to finalize. Your move-in attachment (provided with your lease documents) will detail the exact amount due at move-in. This typically includes:

  • Prorated First Month's Rent: Rent is due and prorated as of the "start date" reflected on your lease.
  • Any Applicable Pet Fees: If you're bringing a furry friend, these fees will be outlined.
  • Parking Fees: If you've secured a parking space, these fees will be included.
  • Storage Fees: If you've opted for a storage unit, these fees will apply.

 

Important Payment Information: The Gallery accepts ACH payments, debit cards, and credit cards (paid via the Resident Portal) for your first month’s rent payment. We do not accept cash.

Please review your move-in attachment carefully for all specific charges. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these items, contact the Management Office immediately.

Move-In Day: The Grand Unveiling

The day has arrived! Your journey to luxury living at The Gallery is about to begin. To ensure a smooth key release and a warm welcome, follow these steps:

  1. Gather Your Required Documents: Before heading to the Management Office, ensure you have these three essential documents readily available:
    • Your new ComEd account number.
    • A copy of Page 1 of your Renter’s Insurance Policy.
    • Receipt of your first month’s rent payment. (Ensure this payment has been processed via the Resident Portal before your arrival).
  2. Visit the Management Office: Your first stop will be the Management Office for a brief 15-minute orientation. This is where you'll present your required documents, receive your keys, and get acquainted with some essential building information.
    • Office Hours:
      • Monday – Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Central
      • Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Central
      • Closed every Sunday.
      • Plan your move-in accordingly to align with office hours.
  3. Move-In Orientation: During your orientation, the friendly staff will provide you with crucial details about building access, amenity usage, emergency procedures, and any other vital information for new residents. This is also an excellent opportunity to ask any last-minute questions you may have.
  4. Receiving Your Keys: Once all documents are verified and the orientation is complete, you’ll receive the keys to your magnificent new home!

 

Practical Tips for a Flawless Move

Beyond the administrative essentials, here are some practical tips to make your physical move-in as efficient as possible:

  • Declutter Before You Pack: Take this opportunity to streamline your belongings. The less you bring, the easier and quicker your move will be. Consider donating or selling items you no longer need.
  • Pack an "Essentials" Box/Bag: This should include items you'll need immediately upon arrival: toiletries, a change of clothes, medications, phone chargers, snacks, and important documents. Keep this bag with you, not on the moving truck.
  • Label Everything Clearly: Label each box with its intended room in your new apartment (e.g., "Kitchen," "Master Bedroom"). This helps movers place boxes directly where they belong, saving you unpacking time.
  • Protect Fragile Items: Use plenty of bubble wrap, packing paper, or even soft towels and blankets to protect fragile items like mirrors, glassware, and artwork.
